- From Pathways to Morphology: Molecular Foundations of Genetic Tumor Syndromes
In times of precision medicine, the pathologist serves as an important gatekeeper for genetic testing. As our understanding of the germline-somatic interface deepens, the traditional „organ-based“ approach to tumor predisposition is increasingly being replaced by a pathway-driven perspective.
This seminar invites you to explore genetic tumor syndromes through the lens of molecular mechanisms.
Rather than focusing solely on organ systems, we will examine the disrupted cellular processes - from epigenetic remodeling and ubiquitination to oxidative stress and DNA repair – and how these molecular aberrations can translate to a particular phenotype and morphologic findings.
A highlight of this year’s program is our debate session on the interpretation of the Federal Act on Human Genetic Testing and what this means for pathology. Moving beyond standard presentations, this segment features contrasting viewpoints from experts of the Swiss Society of Molecular Pathology, followed by an open floor debate. Join us for an interactive session focused on integrating molecular pathways and legal frameworks into modern diagnostic practice.
